Waking the Dragon/Deffro y Ddraig.

A basic sketch done with a soft lead stick.

I have painted around the dragons outline and around the canvas edges. I used paynes grey. This technique is called negative painting.

The basic design is drawn out with raw umber.

Drawing in a basic scale shape and directions over the main body. I will only use this as a guide. 

Painting in the base colour of Cadmium Red Lt and reshaping the muscle and contours with scale directions.

I have now created the base to the whole dragon. Now it is time to work on the finer details of each scale and the rest of the dragon. 

The dragons scales have been given shadows and the main underbelly has been given three coats of paint. This is almost finished now. Just some general tweaking of details and finish the wings.

The finished work 100x40cm on block canvas. Colours used for this painting are Cadmium Red light, Cadmium red, Paynes gray, Alizarin crimson and Titanium white.
